About the event
Sexual Assault Awareness, Prevention and Response Webinar
Youth and adults with disabilities can find it difficult to get information about healthy and safer relationships. Not having relationship education is one thing that can increase a person’s risk for any type of abuse including sexual assault. During this session, participants will review some reasons that people with disabilities are more likely to experience abuse/sexual assault including myths about dating, sex, and disability.
Our presenters will share information about common signs of sexual assault and some of the ways to respond that support recovery and healing (trauma-informed communication and responses). Ways to reduce the risks of sexual violence and abuse of people with disabilities will be introduced. Presenters will also share information about My Rights My Life, an educational resource designed to bridge the gap between education about sex and healthy relationships for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
