About the event

Learned helplessness is a condition when a person has learned to act or behave helpless in a particular situation, even when he/she has the power to change its unpleasant or even harmful circumstance.

Positive psychology is a field that examines how ordinary people can become happier and more fulfilled. And can help in overcoming learned helplessness.

James Turnage, Director of Supports for Disability Services at MHMR of Tarrant County, will lead a discussion exploring learned helplessness and positive psychology.

This is a great opportunity to gain an understanding of the concept of learned helplessness and positive psychology developed by Martin Seligman. Components of learned helplessness will be explored such as a feeling of lack of control and pessimistic thinking styles.
